A traditional pub in the heart of Dublin city, this famous venue is world renowned for its atmosphere and live music. Whelan's has seen the likes of Jeff Buckley, Artic Monkeys, Ed Sheeran, Glen Hansard, and Damien Rice, amongst many other influential artists from the last quarter century. This small venue has become so famous that many artists perform on its stage simply because they are already in Dublin and must take a pit stop to perform in its hallowed halls.
Many films have been shot within the walls of the historic pub, including the American romantic comedy, P.S. I Love You.
Home to the Irish musical spirit, Whelan's proudly supports local Dublin artists every weekend.
Music is integral to Irish culture, as demonstrated through Ireland's national emblem, the harp. Ireland is actually the only country in the world with a musical instrument as their national emblem, evident of the place that music has in its society.
The Irish are known for their singer/songwriting talent and their raw emotion. Here is an example of such raw voices and soulful lyrics, as seen through Damien Rice's moving performance of his original song "The Box" at Whelan's.
